FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Alray Taylor Second Chance Scholarhip Fund Established

Charlestown, MA   December 27, 2007  — C-town Spirit has joined with noted author Neil Swidey in establishing The Alray Taylor Second Chance Scholarship Fund. This announcement is made in conjunction with the release of Mr. Swidey's book THE ASSIST: Hoops, Hope, and The Game of Their Lives. ( www.theassist.net )

The scholarship fund is designed to help give a second shot at college to promising Boston students who suffered a setback during their first attempt. It is named in memory of Alray Taylor, a former Charlestown High School basketball star who was killed in 2006.

Neil Swidey and C-town Spirit have joined to promote the Second Chance Scholarship, after recognizing that the inner city youth need more than college access. After they enroll in classes, they frequently encounter obstacles that derail their college success. The absence of natural support structures in the lives of inner city youth narrows their margin for success.

The Second Chance Scholarship is designed to help promising young students to return to college and graduate. C-town Spirit, a non-profit organization focused on improving educational opportunity, is proud to accept donations for the scholarship on its website, www.c-townspirit.org.
